This week on Going Beyond Words and ACDA Radio join Stan Schmidt for a special edition as he helps we all remember Estonian composer, Veljo Tormis, one of the greatest choral creators of the the 20th Century. You will hear how folk music used this towering Genius. Internationally, his fame arose chiefly from his extensive body of choral music, which exceeds 500 individual songs, most of it a cappella. This program was designed to give you several different styles used by Veljo Tormis to reflect the importance of life in Estonia. Groups participating are Orphei Drängar, Musica Intima, The Portland State University Chamber Choir, The Estonian Radio Choir, The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and a live performance of “Curse Upon Iron” offered by Conspirare recorded at the NC ACDA convention in Omaha, March 4, 2006 in Omaha, Nebraska. Please enjoy this music of Veljo Tormis.
