The Lowest C

I’m not really sure what to make of this. The E is true. It rings. I would take it. The C…not so much. And it’s clearly a lipsynched performance, so how repeatable is it…But really, who cares, right? It’s freaking low. Anybody out there come across a singer like this before? Or are you this singer? Because I have an opening for a bass 3 in my choir. And if you can read music…well, that’s not such a big deal to me in your case.

  1. I don’t know what the fuss is all about. It’s actually only a C sharp. 🙂 Well, OK, the tuning is flatter than A=442.
     
    But seriously, folks, the issue here is not pitch but volume. There must be lots of trained singers out there who can produce pitches in this range (the operative word being ‘produce’ rather than ‘sing’). Heck, I was able to replicate that bass part myself, sitting here at my computer with no warmup whatsoever, and I am not a profondo by any stretch of the imagination. The point is that if I were to use such pitches in a choir, they would not be audible even to the bass sitting next to me, let alone balance with the rest of the choir. But with electronic amplification you can balance anything.
     
    It is nevertheless true that bass singers who can manage an audible and blendable tone in that register ACOUSTICALLY are a rare breed indeed.
