One of the challenges in programming for women’s voices is that much of the repertoire is – sorry to say – a little bland. Sometimes it seems that there are a few too many “pretty” selections about a wee lass in a lovely meadow reading a book of sonnets while litte birds twitter happily overhead.
Underestimate the power and potential of a women’s chorus at your own peril!
Those of us working with women’s voices are constantly prowling for exciting, powerful, engaging music worthy of the ensemble and its members. Of course, that's nothing new – the matter of women’s choral literature has been a topic of discussion for decades.
Here then a performance of a women’s chorus from an ACDA national conference (without a single meadowlark to be found).
