FIVE FROM THE FOLDER: TREBLE VOICES by Heather Potter
1. “Praise the Lord Who Reigns Above.” Jody Lindh. Choristers Guild CGA583
Exuberant setting of a classic hymn text. A dynamic melody line is supported by a rhythmically driving accompaniment with accessible Orff parts. Fun to sing and hear.
2. “Ani Ma’amin.” Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory. earthsongs
Haunting melody in lovely tessitura for young voices. Crying motif mirroring text encourages word-painting study. Poignant violin solo overlaid with narration.
3. Vivaldi for Treble Voices: Selections from Magnificat “Et Exultavit.” ed. Galvan. Roger Dean 15/1474R
Wonderful Baroque study for intermediate singers. Lilting melodic line, accessible range, supportive accompaniment, challenging yet achievable articulation.
4. “Boats Sail on the Rivers.” Mark Patterson. BriLee 15/1540H
Lyrical setting of a Rosetti poem. Useful partner song for easing into two-part singing. Each melody reflects text and sings well independently.
5. “Out in the Fields.” Andrea Ramsey. Santa Barbara SBMP 744
Spritely setting of Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem. Mixed meter creates dancelike motion reflecting text. Unison melody alternates with true two-part singing.
