(An excerpt from the Choral Journal article, “Conference Notes” discussing what was planned for the 1960 ACDA National Conference, which took place exactly 53 years ago this week.)
The beautiful Renaissance Room in the Ambassador Hotel in world-famed Atlantic City will be the setting for the 1960 American Choral Directors Association national conference, to be held March 16 and 17, with two event-packed days of choral singing, demonstrations, discussions, reading sessions of new and old music and lectures for the general improvement of choral work in America.
Under the aegis of Music Educators National Conference, the ACDA meetings were planned to occur during MENC Pre-Conference meetings of officers, thus allowing choral .directors from all parts of the United States to attend the ACDA Conference and MENC.
Organized last February at Kansas City, with a group of about 70 choral directors, ACDA now has 140 paid members as well as several associate members in all categories. With the publishing of the ACDA Journal and mailing it throughout the country, it is hoped to triple the enrollment before Conference time. Under the direction of its officers, the organization is slowly taking shape as a major association for choral directors throughout the nation and much interest is being shown in all areas of the country, both for the organization and the forthcoming conference in March.
You are cordially invited and urged to join us in becoming an active ACDA member.
