“Students live UP TO or DOWN TO our expectations”
One has said this countless times to music education students. While, yes, we have occasionally had an incorrigible student in our care, I suspect most choral conductors would agree with this axiom.
As you listen to this performance from a previous ACDA National Conference, ponder what sort of expectations our colleague had for this ensemble. From such fundamentals as being on time and remaining focused throughout rehearsals, to music issues related to tuning, tone, and vowel color, one suspects there were high expectations place upon these young singers.
What will you expect of your singers today? And will you demand an equally high level of performance from yourself?
