Angulo-Pizarro, Ignacio. An analysis of Joby Talbot’s “Path of Miracles.” Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program Thesis. University of Delaware, 2012.
This research provides an in-depth analysis of Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles, a four movement, hour-long work based on the pilgrimage of St. James to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Using aural and visual examples of vocal motives, this research supplies its audience with a thorough analysis of the each of the four movements in terms of its multiple tonalities, complex musical textures, and libretto. In addition, the unique stage directions, extended vocal techniques, and music-text relationship are also examined. Ultimately, choral conductors and listeners alike will more thoroughly appreciate the complexities of the Path of Miracles and experience a higher level of musical performance of this work.
