The mission of the American Choral Directors Association is to inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.
The mission statement serves to encapsulate ACDA’s twelve purposes, providing its members with a clear definition of the values to which the Association ascribes.
“For over fifty years the PURPOSES of ACDA have been and will continue to be the guiding principles that serve as the foundation for inspiration and decision making in our organization,” said Karen Fulmer, ACDA’s President-Elect. “The recent development of a succinct mission statement summarizes all of these purposes and communicates our vision for inspiring choral excellence in society through multiple mediums. This statement announces to the world exactly who we are, what we do, and how we accomplish our mission.”
“Our founders were careful to clearly define the Association’s purposes in a responsible and forward-looking manner,” said Tim Sharp, ACDA’s Executive Director. “The Purposes are at the heart of our strategic initiatives. They are also posted conspicuously throughout the ACDA National Offices, and serve to inform virtually every decision made by our staff.”
Originally proposed to the Executive Committee and the National Board in September 2011, the Mission Statement was placed before the ACDA membership in a national survey in early 2012, where it received overwhelming support. Based on that study, the Association’s leadership endorsed the statement at their meeting in June.
