March 27, 2012 by Tim Sharp Leave a Comment

On June 29-31, ACDA celebrates the conclusion of the initial phase of our multi-year partnership with the Library of Congress in the National Symposium on American Choral Music, “The Search for an American Style.” The Symposium features keynote speaker/composer Conrad Susa, along with Pulitzer Prize winning composer and 2013 Brock Memorial Commission composer, Steven Stuckey, as well as emeritus Brock composers David Conte, Gwyneth Walker, and Steven Sametz. Additional presenters include champions and expert voices of American choral composition and choral music advocacy, Libby Larsen, Philip Brunelle, and David DeVenney.

Performance venues include the Library of Congress Coolidge Auditorium, with performances by the Children’s Chorus of Washington, Princeton Singers, St. Mary’s College Women’s Choir, Washington D.C. Men’s Camerata, University of Texas at San Antonio Chamber Singers, and the Nathaniel Dett Singers. The concluding Gala concluding concert featuring the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters, The Singing Sergeants of the U.S. Air Force, The Ft. Meade Soldiers Chorus, and The U.S. Army Chorus. These performing forces will present the music featured on the celebrated Library of Congress/ACDA website “American Choral Music”, with music by Amy Beach Gena Branscombe, Dudley Buck, Margaret R. Lang, H.T. Burleigh, Horatio Parker, Peter C. Lutkin, Patty Stair, R. Nathaniel Dett, Mabel Daniels, and more.
