Those with discerning ears will notice that the recording embedded in this ChoralBuzz post (not an officially-sanctioned–or legal–upload to YouTube, BTW) is of more than 24 voices, the number of singers in the Kansas City Chorale. The young fan who ripped the audio off the CD failed to mention in the notes on YouTube that the recording came from the joint Kansas City Chorale/Phoenix Bach Choir (now the Phoenix Chorale) recording of Grechaninov’s Passion Week, using 52 singers and recorded in Kansas City (but not in the church depicted in the “video,” which is actually the National Cathedral). Why do I bring this up? Because I’m one of the low bases rumbling out the low Bs (I’m not a profundo, but you do what ya gotta do when the conductor asks!). The 24 singers of the KCC will surely do a wonderful job in ACDA North Central. 🙂
