Today begins a new era for the American Choral Directors Association as we ask all of our members to help determine the priorities for the actions and resources of our Association. Today, our Stratetic Planning Membership Survey goes live at www.acda.org, and asks our membership to weigh-in on what should be the focus of our work together in the next three to five years. This phase in our stratetic planning has been in development for over a year and a half, and has worked its way from our National Leadership Conference in Chicago in 2010, to our Executive Committee, to a Strategic Planning Committee, to our National Board, back through our Executive and Strategic Planning Committees, and now to all of us as members.
This Membership Survey is historic for a couple of reasons: first, it has never been done in ACDA to help shape the future direction of our work; and secondly, it will result in a "Mission Statement" for ACDA, the first of its kind. ACDA has operated for over 50 years with a strong set of purposes, but these purposes have never been reduced to an operational statement of mission. By the time of our National Conference in Dallas in 2013, we will have both a Mission Statement and a Strategic Plan to offer our membership that comes from our membership. It will be one of the many accomplishments we will celebrate the week of March 13-16, 2013.
Start the 2012 New Year by engaging and making a difference in your national choral association, ACDA, by participating in the Stratetic Planning Membership Survey, by offering your opinion regarding the emerging Mission Statement, and by voting in the National ACDA Election for a President-Elect Designate. There are two outstanding candidates on the National ballot, and one of them will help lead us as we realize our new Strategic Plan. These elections and survey are on the ACDA website throughout January, but why not start the New Year right by being proactive today.
