It appears that those were the ubiquitous Wenger Tourmaster risers that obviously had not been properly secured. I’m sure that many of us realize that the cross braces must be slid all the way until they “click” into place, and then a safety mechanism must also be latched to prevent things like this. There was most likely nothing wrong at all with the risers, just with the way that they were improperly set up. The few stories I’ve seen all mention that “new risers” had been obtained–not one mention of the likely cause, but that’s probably asking too much. 🙂
