“The most effective choral conductors are music educators in the broadest and best sense. They are constantly bringing people and music together in such a way that the members of the choral ensemble experience aesthetic ‘highs’ as well as an enjoyment from participation as group members, and that they learn more and more about music – an intensely complicated art form.”

“I began this afternoon by referring to the task of preparing the next generation of choral conductors as ‘awesome.’ At this point it should be obvious that a thorough understanding of the growth concept is necessary. The job of preparation will never be completed, for life itself is constantly changing. But we can give our future conductors a firm base on which to build and we can assist in the establishment of habits and attitudes which can be the tools essential for lifelong self-directed study and growth.”
