   Scott – I have incredibly mixed feelings about this video.  I can understand and appreciate the value of such music being presented, but here’s my beef:  I don’t know if that was in Estonian, Latin (I don’t think so), or some other language – I hope the audience had an available translation – otherwise this is no more than glossalalia – and thus a self-indulgence; I found the director’s direction disproportionate to the musical effect he was seeking, especially in the quieter moments; I was honestly getting seasick watching the group sway (unless that was an intentional effect – which doesn’t change my seasickness!).  It wasn’t until the last few moments when the scrim was being brought over the choir (which annoyed me considerably) and the picture of Blessed Theresa of Calcutta was shown that there was an emotional connection.  I just don’t know; I found this more disturbing than informing – perhaps that was the reason Pärt wrote it, and if so, he succeeded in his objective.  Yes, I would have been stunned; but not favorably so.  But, thank you for sharing it with us – at the very least, it’ll make us think.
