Stick Time: Yes, a Middle School Choir CAN

We all know that middle school is a challenging time for most young people.  The physical, mental, and emotional challenges of that stage of life form a veritable witch’s brew (who among us doesn’t have a horror story from adolescence?).  But the next time someone makes a disparaging remark about middle school choral singers, I intend to point them to this video.  This ensemble sings with verve, musicality, beautiful line . . . oh, yeah, and that’s an orchestra sitting in front of them.  Here’s a doff of the cap to YOU, middle school colleagues!  Your singers have limitless potential.

  1. Thanks for posting.  It is a wonderful group.  It is important to remember what limitless potential middle school singers have. 
    We do need to keep in mind the circumstances under which these singers were able to achieve this potential, however.  This group is from a huge arts magnet school to which students must audition in order to be accepted.  Along with top-notch facilities, the students probably have weekly private voice lessons and meet for choir rehearsal on a daily basis.  Most of us in the middle school setting aren’t able to provide our students with those kids of opportunities.  I wish we could.  My choir meets to rehearse for 45 minutes once every 8 days.
