Stick Time: Cultural Authenticity

When I was in France some time back the person I was traveling with insisted on eating American food.  WHAT!?  Who looks for BBQ in Paris?  Isn’t the purpose of travel to experience as much as one can about a culture?  Today, let’s step out of the Western canon and get a little sonic taste of Indonesian culture with this performnace by the Indonesian Youth Choir. How can this influence YOUR performance of American folk music?

  1. Odd that the name of the composer has been left out.  Imagine that happening to a composer in the USA.    I believe it is Perry Rumengan.
     
    I also find it interesting that you use the word “authentic”  when traditional Indonesian music is anything but a line of singers standing still on a stage.   It’s a nice mixture of new (western style new) and traditional but not authentic.
     
    Love your Stick Time pieces.  Keep them coming!
