She thought she was all alone . . .
While talking with a newly-minted choral music teacher about the initial couple weeks in her first job, it soon became all-too apparent that she was the only music teacher in that school. Sadly, she was already feeling lonely. Rather than being surrounded by other choral music people as she had been for the preceding four years in college, she was suddenly the only choir person in the building. The isolation was a shock to her system.
Despite being swarmed by singers all the time, many of us feel professionally isolated because we are frequently the only choral conductor in our institution. So when we have a rotten rehearsal, or discover a wonderful new piece, or just need to talk about our choirs, there’s no one nearby who “gets it.” It can be a little lonely.
But thanks to the interconnectedness of the web, you are only a couple clicks away from a huge slice of the choral conducting community through ACDA. There are MANY ways to connect, and you’re already at one of ACDA’s most important sites: Choral Net. Another great resource is the ACDA home page, www.acda.org. While there, you can click on the links to visit (and “like”) the ACDA Facebook page, follow Tim Sharp on Twitter, get an RSS feed, and view the more than 200 videos ACDA has placed on YouTube.
She thought she was all alone . . .
. . . thankfully, she was wrong.
