The situation:
1. An incoming student, passionate about choral music, wasn't scheduled to attend orientation until the day before school started in August.
2. Auditions were scheduled to be completed at the end of June.
The solution: a skype audition
It worked very well!
I had heard about voice teachers using Skype for lessons but I had never considered using it for a choir audition. The young woman gave herself pitches on the piano to let me hear her range and tone. I emailed her a sightreading exercise and coached her through what I wanted to hear.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that has done this, but I can attest that it works. Would anyone else like to share?
