Sing for Japan

April 20, 2011 by Tim Sharp Leave a Comment

If you are like me, when disaster or tragedy strikes the world community, after the shock subsides, there is a helplessness that sets in related to how we can fully empathize, react, and help. We look at what we do for a living and ask the question, “How does what we do make a difference?” or “How could what we do help?” This was how the project Sing for Japan came into being.

Some of our choral colleagues have found a way to surround our Japanese friends in this time of need by using our singing, our concerts, and other choral activity as a way to raise and donate money forJapanese relief? They have done this by constructing a way we could do so by using Japanese music.

Thanks to the hard work of some of our iinternational choral friends, renowned composer-conductor Ko Matsushita has donated four choral pieces to the Sing for Japan project. When you or your choir make a donation, you can request a score of your choice as a “thank you” gift! This initiative gives us the opportunity to tell our friends in Japan, “you are not alone!”

To learn more about how you can participate, and more importantly, how you can help, follow this link to the Sing for Japan website.
