The Research and Publications Committee of the American Choral Directors Association announces that Brian T. Russell is the winner of the most recent Julius Herford Prize. Input requested for future planning for church music program
I’m helping our church think through its vision for music ministries. Our eventual goal is to have music activities or ensembles (either choir, chimes or handbells or combinations thereof) for all ages of children in our congregation, plus an adult choir and at least one adult handbell ensemble. Our goals are to bring glory to […]
Skuduciai
I need to purchase 2 Lithuanian skuduciai. Does anyone know where I might buy them?
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes – Ralph Hunter
Wondering if anyone has any suggestion on where I might get my hands on Smoke Gets In Your Eyes arranged by Ralph Hunter Copyright 1933 then renewed 1960 T.B Harms company.
Whatever happened to joy?
From a wonderful blog: “Oh What A Beautiful Morning” is a difficult song to sing. In the very first line, all sorts of sly half notes and flats and sharps lay waiting to catch the wariest of voices. If you direct church choirs, the perfect way to audition singers is to have them sing […]
Faure Requiem Rutter Vs. Evans
The church I just took over for has two choral scores of Faure’s Requiem, the one edited by Rutter and the other by Mack Evans. Does anyone have any experience with either or both, and would you recomend one over the other? Also, are they compatible enough to be used together? Thanks! Up and […]
Suggestions for children’s chorale “Open Sing”
Along with the group’s artistic director, I have decided to host an open house to generate interest in a newly formed children’s chorus. I have a few ideas percolating but would love to hear what others have done. The group is for treble voices ages 8-14, and will be singing mostly American folk music for […]
Part score to full score?
Hello A question came up in a high school theory/composition class that neither the instructor or I have the answer for. The question was “why do choral musicians typically work off a full/reduced score and instrumental musicians work off part scores?” Clearly there is ample evidence that this practice was not always the […]
Motivation
I’m having a problem getting my choir motivated and understand the importance of the festival we have coming up. One junior in paticular has seemed to just give up on the rest of the choir because out of 20 I have 11 freshmen and she seems to think they we will never be any good […]
RE: Madame Jeannette
You’re right; this is a little, old-fashioned gem. The composer is Alan Murray, the lyricist Edward Lockton. It was published in the UK by Paterson’s Publications, London; the American agent was Carl Fischer, # PT1542. My copy has no copyright date… I just checked CPDL; it’s not there.
