Set in the magnificent Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral, with its soaring Romanesque architecture and storied stained glass, Unstoppable: Fierce and Free is more than a concert — it’s a declaration. In a moment when the forces working against our communities grow louder, these two choirs answer with something stronger: music, solidarity, and the fierce, unshakable freedom of singing together.
Philadelphia’s longest-running feminist choir meets New York City’s first LGBTQ+ gospel choir — and the result is Unstoppable. ANNA Crusis and Lavender Light Gospel Choir join forces for a landmark collaboration celebrating music as resistance, community as power, and joy as a radical act.
Founded in 1985 by two Black gay men reclaiming their musical and spiritual roots, Lavender Light is an independent, Black-led, intergenerational chorus with over 40 singers spanning ages 20 to 72. They bring the full force of the Black gospel tradition to every stage — from Carnegie Hall to the United Nations to World Pride 2025.
Each choir will perform selections from their own repertoire, showcasing the distinct musical identities that have defined their movements. Then they come together for collaborative songs — a shared stage where feminist anthem meets gospel fire, and the cathedral rings with the combined power of both ensembles.
