The critically-acclaimed Susquehanna Chorale and three of its educational choirs will present the annual Youth Choral Festival on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 4:00 p.m. at the High Center for Performing Arts, Messiah University, Mechanicsburg. The public is invited to attend.
The Youth Choral Festival will showcase the intergenerational voices of the Children’s, Youth, Alto Voce and adult Chorales in a concert designed to celebrate the joy of lifelong singing.
The concert opens with Where Go The Boats? by Cynthia Gray, performed by the Children’s Chorale, under the direction of Judith Shepler. They will also sing a French Folk Song La Laine Des Moutons, arranged by Earlene Rentz and Suzanne Rita Byrnes, Our Gallant Ship by Sarah Brumfield, Et Exultavit (from Magnificat in G minor) by Vivaldi, and an arrangement of the traditional spiritual Climbin’ Up the Mountain Chidlren! by Rollo Dilworth.
The Susquehanna Chorale, under Artistic Director, Founder, and Conductor, Linda L. Tedford, will perform Dan Forrest’s The Music of Living, an arrangement of America the Beautiful by Robert Page, and True Light by Keith Hampton.
The Alta Voce Chorale, conducted by Mitchell Sensenig-Wilshire, will present Haec Dies arranged by Nadezhda Averina, Bloom by Philip Silvey, a Latvian Folk Song called The Winds (Part of a World Premier through the ACDA Treble Choir Commission Consortium) by Laura Jēkabsone, and Measure Me Sky! by Elaine Hagenberg.
The Susquehanna Youth Chorale, under the direction of interim conductor, George Diehl, will feature Kyle Pederson’s Ahlan Wa Sahlan , Jake Runestad’s Nyon Nyon, Time by Jennifer Lucy Cook, and a traditional spiritual arranged by Rob Deitz, How Can I Keep From Singing.
The concert concludes with Mack Wilberg’s Anthem of Peace, directed by Ms. Tedford, featuring all of the singers on stage for a combined grand finale.
