Fresh from Carnegie Hall and a performance with classic rock band Foreigner, South Holland Master Chorale is preparing to open its fall concert season with a program of contemporary sacred and secular music.
The 60-voice ensemble, under the direction of Philip J. Bauman, will present two free concerts titled “You Do Not Walk Alone” — on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. at St. Julie Billiart Church, 7399 W. 159th Street, Tinley Park, and on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m. at St. John Neumann Parish, 17951 Dixie Highway, Homewood.
Accompanying the Chorale will be Marilyn Bourgeois, piano; Mark Sudeith, organ; Pat White, cello; and Jeff Handley, percussion.
Exploring Life’s Journeys Through Song
“Everyone has a journey and a story to tell,” said Bauman. “As singers, we express those stories through song. Whether the stories are our own or those of others, one truth remains constant — we do not travel alone. The people and moments that intersect our lives shape how we see, hear, and care.”
Bauman explained that the upcoming concerts will feature music by many of today’s leading choral composers — including Dan Forrest, Kyle Pederson, Elaine Hagenberg, Marques Garrett, Rosephanye Powell, and Shara Nova — offering a tapestry of human emotion and shared experience.
“Our collection of works reflects a wide spectrum of feeling — joy, beauty, consolation, wonder, and celebration,” he said. “Through every piece runs the reminder that we are connected. In triumph or despair, we do not walk alone.”
Continuing a Legacy of Music and Community
As the Chorale transitions from a high-energy summer into its fall concert season, Bauman says the group remains eager for whatever opportunity comes next.
“I’m continually inspired by our singers — their skill, their openness, and their passion for exploring all kinds of music,” he said. “It’s a privilege to make music with them year-round. And who knows what invitation might be waiting just around the corner?”
All South Holland Master Chorale concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.
