Elektra, Vancouver’s internationally acclaimed adult treble voice choir, presents If the Earth Could Sing (March 28–29, 2026), a multimedia choral program centred on Canadian voices responding to climate change, place, and landscape. Projected landscape imagery accompanies the music throughout the concert.
A major highlight is the world premiere of Songs from the Lytton Fire by 2026 JUNO Award nominee Andrew Staniland, setting texts by poet Meghan Fandrich, a survivor of the 2021 Lytton wildfire. The work approaches wildfire as a lens rather than a subject, reflecting on community, vulnerability, and resilience.
The program also features Unsung: If the Earth Could Sing by Vancouver composer Katerina Gimon, a five-movement work for choir with cello and percussion, setting texts by poet Lauren Peat. Each movement gives voice to a different Canadian landscape, sung from the perspective of the land itself.
Additional works by Don Macdonald, Mari Esabel Valverde, Gerda Blok-Wilson, and Luke Wallace broaden the program’s perspectives on climate and place.
