Boston Baroque returns to NEC’s Jordan Hall this December for its cherished holiday presentation of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. With its luminous choruses and soaring melodies, Messiah stands as one of the most beloved works in the choral repertoire — and Boston Baroque’s rendition promises to bring warmth, joy, and a sense of reverent celebration to audiences.
Conducted by Filippo Ciabatti, Boston Baroque will be joined by a stellar quartet of soloists: soprano Amanda Forsythe, mezzo-soprano Paula Murrihy, tenor Thomas Cooley, and baritone Roderick Williams. Their voices, combined with the historically informed period-instrument ensemble and chorus, are set to deliver a performance that balances emotional depth with Baroque elegance.
Audiences will be transported by highlights such as the radiant “For unto us a child is born,” the tender arias, and the iconic, triumphant “Hallelujah” chorus. The use of period instruments adds a vibrant and historically authentic texture, making the concert not only a musical experience, but a journey back to the sounds of Handel’s time.
The performances are scheduled for Friday, December 5th, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 7th, at 3:00 PM. In addition to the musical celebration, local concertgoers may find a pre-concert talk or demonstration especially enriching — though the main draw is the power and beauty of the voices and instruments coming together in harmony.
Boston Baroque’s Messiah is more than just a holiday concert — it is a deeply rooted tradition that resonates across generations. Whether you attend for the soaring choral climaxes or the intimate solo lines, this event offers a meaningful way to experience the timeless message of hope and redemption through music. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a joyous seasonal gathering at the heart of Boston’s classical music scene.
