Opportunity for college students and recent college graduates to participate as choral leaders in the Summit Choral Society Masterworks Chorale. This role is a season-long commitment, beginning in mid-August (approximate start date: August 15) to mid-May. Choral Scholars will have the opportunity to build their resume, learn and perform major choral works, sharpen their musicianship skills, and practice professional-level leadership in a choral setting. The SCS Choral Scholar program seeks emerging leaders in the choral field with superb musicianship skills, impeccable work ethic, and fine vocal technique.
Duties include, under the supervision and discretion of the Artistic Director: singing at all rehearsals and retreats, possibly leading sectional rehearsals, helping with singing at absentee rehearsals at the Artistic Director’s discretion (6:40 on Tuesdays), and singing at all performances, including the Fall Concert (F.J. Haydn’s Creation, November 6, 2016), all Christmas Concerts (Featured Work: Ralph Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Christmas Carol, December 18, 19, 20, 2016), Spring Concerts (Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, January 23, 2017; Mendelssohn’s Elijah, May 6, 2017), and be featured as a soloist/chamber ensemble member at the “Dance with Me” Fundraising/Benefit Concert (TBA, presumably in February, March, or May)
Regular rehearsals for the SCS happen on Tuesday Nights from 7:00 – 9:30 PM at Fairlawn West United Church of Christ.
Choral Scholars will be awarded a $1500 scholarship for their participation and leadership,
To apply: please send in a current CV/resume, two recommendation letters, and a letter of intent. Select applicants will be contacted for an audition/interview during the last two weeks of July or the first week of August. Audition will include singing one aria/art song and sight-reading excerpts from a large choral work. An accompanist will be provided.
