St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas seeks experienced professional choral singers in all voice parts for its winter/spring 2019 choir season. Staff singers serve as section leaders in the St. Philip Choir, and also sing as a stand-alone ensemble on occasion. Repertoire spans the centuries from Medieval chant and Renaissance polyphony to the finest sacred choral music of our own time. Interested singers should have the training, ability, and flexibility to sing a wide range of choral repertoire with a healthy, warm vocal tone relatively free of vibrato, and must have excellent musical, sight-reading, tuning, and interpersonal skills.
There are generally two choral calls per week, including a Wednesday evening rehearsal and one Sunday morning service. Staff singers must be able to commit to the choir schedule with relatively few outside conflicts, and must be available for Holy Week and Easter, in addition to regular weekly services from now through mid-June 2019.
The St. Philip staff singer stipend is very competitive (among the highest in Houston), and further stipended opportunities are available for singers who wish to serve as soloists in addition to their work in the choir. For more information, or to schedule an audition, please contact St. Philip Director of Music Dr. Randall Swanson at
St. Philip is located at 4807 San Felipe Street in Houston, less than 20 minutes from downtown.
