Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Cherry Hill, NJ is seeking interested college students or young professionals to audition for the 2017-2018 Choral Scholar Program. All voice parts are welcome to apply.
This program is designed to offer the opportunity for young people to be introduced to an eclectic selection of choral literature in the church setting, and work alongside a group of 15-18 volunteer singers while gaining proficiency in sight reading, and ensemble and soloist skills. It is expected that our choral scholars will be interested in providing musical leadership to this spirited group of folks by assisting with sectional rehearsals (piano skills are a plus), and by choosing solo repertoire to present during regular services or special events throughout the season including during our Friends of Music Concert Series.
Choral Scholars must:
-Have excellent sight reading skills and vocal ability in a choral setting
-Attend Sunday morning rehearsal (9am) and service (10:30am)
-Be available to attend occasional Thursday evening rehearsals from 7pm-9pm
-Interest in helping with children’s choirs or other church activities a plus
-Have a positive, supportive attitude and a willingness to learn and teach!
Singers will receive a $60 stipend for each Sunday and will be paid monthly. One Sunday off each month will be permitted, not to include special events or services. The choir sings from September through mid-June, as well as occasional concerts and special services including Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday or Good Friday and Easter. Special services, concerts and additional rehearsals may merit extra pay.
