Together in song – we heal, we rise.

PROTOTYPE Festival will kick off its 10th anniversary season with an exuberant cri de coeur, bringing communities together through what we know best – the voice. We have long missed the opera houses, black box theatres, and jazz clubs, but perhaps what we have missed most is singing – the joyous feeling of expressing one’s being through song.

The All Sing brings more than 1,000 people together to weave a vibrant tapestry of sound, poetic justice, and hope. From the voices who tread the boards of some of our most hallowed stages to those who tread the tiles of their shower, all are welcome in this ebullient celebration of connection, community, and our capacity to love. Together as one we will craft an unforgettable moment and sing for a return to a more just, healthy, and music-filled life in a post-COVID world.

Please contact if you’re interested.

Commitment: We ask that each ensemble rehearse the music independently between December 1, 2021 – January 6, 2022. The music can be learned in one 30 – 45 minute rehearsal. An audio recording of the vocal lines will be made available in early December to assist with rehearsals. PROTOTYPE will print and mail copies of the piano/vocal score to each ensemble prior to December 1, 2021, if requested. We ask that each music librarian or choral admin distribute to their singers. A PDF of the score will be made available on the PROTOTYPE website on December 1, 2021. prototypefestival.org

Duration: 3-5 minutes of vocal music. The piece will open with spoken text and close with instrumentals. We anticipate the performance lasting ~15-20 minutes.

Relevant dates: There will be some light movement/staging during the piece, which will be discussed during a meeting held in Times Square at 6pm ET on Wednesday, January 5 or 6pm ET on Thursday, January 6. Please hold both dates. We ask that each choral group assign a captain who will lead the ensemble as they process in and recess out. The choral captain should be present at this meeting; the ensemble need not attend.

Performance: Saturday, January 8 (**subject to change)
10am Indoor rehearsal: Location TBD
12:15pm Sound Check / Outdoors in Times Square on the steps at Duffy Square (7th Ave & West 47th Street)
12:45pm Dress Rehearsal

Raindate: Sunday, January 9 – same schedule and location as above

COVID protocol: For the safety of all involved, at this time, we strongly encourage all singers to be vaccinated. Should this become mandatory, PROTOTYPE will be in touch.

Attire:
• Black binder or choral folder (memorization is not necessary)
• Please plan to dress warmly as this is an outdoor event!
• Bag drop details are forthcoming. In the event that bag drop cannot be offered, please travel to the performance site with only your music in hand.

Please contact if you’re interested.
