St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Menlo Park, CA (I-280 at Sand Hill Road) is seeking a new bass (or baritone) soloist/section leader. Our 20-voice choir is skilled, spirited, and devoted to making great music. Our repertoire ranges from Hildegard to Bach to Vaughan Williams to William Dawson to newly commissioned works. The music program enjoys the enthusiastic support of the people and clergy of St. Bede’s, who are committed to the preservation and nurture of the very best sacred music in the Episcopal tradition. Accompaniment instruments include a Von Beckerath tracker organ, as well as a concert grand piano and 2 octave hand-bells.
The choir has a mid-week rehearsal from 7:30 – 9:00 or 9:30, (mostly Wednesdays, some Thursdays) and sings at all Sunday morning services (9:15 call for 10:15 service) September through June, compensated at $60 per call. There are occasional extra rehearsals and services for special feasts such as All Souls, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and Ascension, as well as 2 services of Evensong (fall and spring) and Compline (mid-winter and spring).
The audition process will consist of both a traditional audition (sing a prepared aria and sightread) and a (paid) rehearsal and/or service with the choir. Auditions will continue until the post is filled.
