Polyhymnia is looking for one countertenor or alto for our 2016-2017 concert series. Please e-mail director John Bradley at for more information. The audition will be held in September during a regular rehearsal.
Polyhymnia is a small select vocal ensemble specializing in sacred music from the courts and cathedrals of the Renaissance world. We are one of the ensembles-in-residence at the Church of St. Ignatius of Antioch, and are part of their concert series. Our repertoire extends from the late Middle-Ages and the works of Dufay and Ockeghem to the early Baroque of Schütz and Monteverdi. Our past season included music by Cristóbal de Morales, William Byrd, and music from Germany at the turn of the 17th Century.
Our 2016-2017 season will include music from the Eton Choirbook, plus masses and motets by Andrea Gabrieli and Orlande de Lassus. Complete information and dates are on our website: http://polyhymnia-nyc.org. We have about 7-8 rehearsals per concert on Wednesday evenings, plus the occasional extra rehearsal. Our rehearsal schedule is available upon request.
The singers of Polyhymnia are advanced avocational and professional singers. The fee is $150 per concert.
All singers must have strong sight-reading skills and while a working knowledge of early music vocal technique is helpful, it is not required. Singers are asked to sing with their vibrato well under control combined with the ability and desire to blend with other singers. Singers must also have the ability to sing one on a part if needed, but should primarily enjoy the experience of singing in an ensemble. Experience in a small ensemble is preferred. For more information about the ensemble please visit our website. To hear music from our concerts please visit website: http://polyhymnia-nyc.org/
