Piano Accompanist- Yuba Sutter Master Chorale

The Yuba Sutter Master Chorale is a well established, well funded and highly respected
40-45 voice community chorale established in 2005 serving the Yuba City /Marysville
area of California, an hour north of Sacramento. Our repertoire features classic choral
literature, with an annual “Pops” concert of show tunes and standards. We rehearse on
Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. beginning in late August to prepare for our
October “Pops” concerts and Winter Concerts. We begin again in early February to
prepare for our Spring Concerts in May.

Duties of the Accompanist:
· Under the direction of the choral director, serves as piano accompanist for the Yuba
Sutter Master Chorale during rehearsals and scheduled public performances.
· In consultation with the choral director, prepares all music prior to rehearsal.
· Practices music outside of rehearsals if necessary.
· Sight reads music when needed.
· Accompanies soloists during concerts.
· Works directly with singers during sectionals as needed during rehearsal.
· Lives within a comfortable commute radius of Yuba City, CA

Time commitment: Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings the last week of August
through Christmas Concert in December and first week of February through Spring
Concert in May. Approximately two hours per week for rehearsals and three hours
during each of six public concerts per year. Dress rehearsals may extend to three
hours as needed.

Education and Experience:
· A Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent plus at least two years experience as a
choral and individual accompanist; Extensive experience as a choral and individual
accompanist may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
· Requires experience accompanying choral groups and soloists performing choral
music encompassing a wide range of styles including standard choral classics,
Broadway musicals, operas, and jazz choral arrangements.
· Requires the ability to sight read musical accompaniments, individual choral parts and
multiple choral parts simultaneously.
· Requires the ability to work with the rehearsal style of the director.

Compensation:
The Accompanist is considered to be an independent contractor paid per rehearsal
and performance calculated at $ 40 per hour (2 hour minimum), contract renewed
annually. Tax reporting will be at year end, IRS Form 1099. The YSMC is a 501(c)3
non-profit organization.
