Summary:
The Saint Boniface Episcopal Church Choir strives to further authentic, liturgical worship through the singing of sacred music from a wide variety of periods and styles. To this end, the professional chorister will provide vocal leadership in the adult choir at rehearsals and during church services under the direction of the choirmaster, all the while exemplifying appropriate rehearsal etiquette.
Qualifications:
Strong vocal and music reading skills.
Knowledge and appreciation of classical and traditional church music.
Willingness to learn new music (early through contemporary) and grow as a musician.
Responsibilities:
Participate in all rehearsals scheduled by the choirmaster, currently Wednesday evenings from 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM. Choristers should arrive no later than 6:55 PM.
Participate in the one Sunday church service in which the choir is scheduled to perform, currently 10:00 AM. Choristers should arrive for pre-service warm up/rehearsal no later than 8:55 AM.
Participate in special feast day services (including, but not limited to Christmas, Holy Week, Easter and Ascension Day).
Be willing to sing occasional solos (either short solos or solos which are a part of choral compositions) during above-mentioned services.
Take time outside of rehearsal to learn more challenging music so that appropriate vocal leadership will be clearly demonstrated in rehearsals. Notes should be learned no later than two weeks after a piece has been introduced for all choral music.
Because the paid chorister’s voice is so necessary to the success of the choir, absences should be limited to four Sundays per year. Please provide one-month notice to the choirmaster if possible. Absences beyond four Sundays may result in termination of employment.
Provide adequate substitutes when absences are required, especially when they fall on a feast day.
Verbal participation is encouraged. However, address all feedback to the choirmaster. For example, “We’re missing the rhythm in measure 8. Could we try that again?”
Refrain from correcting other choristers in rehearsal. Present specific concerns to the choirmaster outside of rehearsal time.
Work cooperatively with all staff members. Maintain collegial relationships with all choristers, paid or unpaid.
Strive to maintain a Christ-like attitude at all times, showing respect and support for the community of St. Boniface Episcopal Church.
