Trinity Episcopal Church, Easton, Pa, is seeking interested individuals to audition for the position of Choral Scholar for the 2016/2017 season. All voice parts are welcome to apply.
Our 15+ voice chancel choir (affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music) is spirited, skilled, and dedicated to a high level of choral music and worship leadership. Our literature ranges from Josquin to the present day, with a full seasonal observance of the Episcopal choral liturgy and weekly Anglican chant of the Psalms. The music program at Trinity enjoys the full support of the congregation and clergy, and together we are dedicated to preservation of the very best in sacred choral music in the Episcopal tradition. Accompaniment instruments include a Skinner/Lehigh Organ Co. III/26 pipe organ, as well as a Yamaha baby grand.
The choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:15 from late August through the following June. The ensemble sings weekly at the Sunday 10:30 AM Eucharist service, with a normal call time of 9:30. Additional evening or weekday rehearsals will occasionally be requested in preparation for special feasts such as, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas, Ascensiontide, and/or services of choral evensong (3-4 per year). Compensation begins at $12.50 per hour, with raises based on years of service and credentials.
The audition process will consist of a prepared classical solo work, range exercises, and choral part sight-reading. Finalists may be asked to attend a rehearsal. Keyboard skills (for the purpose of sectional rehearsal leadership) are a definite plus. Strong reading ability, choral part leadership, and a vocal quality complementary to the chamber choir setting are all requirements. An earned music degree is not mandatory, but certainly encouraged. Current collegiate students or highly advanced high school seniors are also encouraged to apply. Auditions will continue throughout the summer months until the four positions are filled. We are also building a list of paid substitute singers for each voice part.
