Wanted! Musically Omnivorous Singers interested in everything from Monteverdi to Meredith Monk.
The Grammy-nominated Pacific Edge Voices will be holding open auditions on August 14th, 2017 for all voice parts.
Each season has a varied repertoire that often includes concerts of classical work from all eras, African-American spirituals and, in our A Cappella Jazz & Pop concert, every conceivable genre – ‘hardly strictly’ jazz & pop! Past collaborations have included Bobby McFerrin, Sufjan Stevens, Meredith Monk, and Sweet Honey in the Rock. We worked with Dave Brubeck to produce two CDs of his choral music, and our Grammy nomination was for a performance of Bernstein’s Mass with Kent Nagano conducting. Repertoire for next year’s winter concert includes a couple of pieces by Rich Campbell, Ives’ Christmas Carol, Morton Lauridson’s Five Midwinter Songs, a selection of pieces by longtime contributor and friend to the group Michael Roberts, and Libby Larsen’s A Cry for Peace among others. For the spring, we are including some Durafle motets, Samuel Barber’s To Be Sung on the Water, a few more pieces by Rich Campbell and Michael Roberts and more. The final concert set of Jazz & Pop is always a mystery, mainly coming from contributions from within the group and selected in May. We also have our annual fundraiser gala in February and other special events and retreats.
We rehearse in Berkeley (Monday nights; near North Berkeley BART) and perform in both San Francisco and the East Bay. Solo opportunities are auditioned from within the chorus, so both solo and choral singers are welcome.
