Open Rehearsal and Auditions for Pacific Edge Voices – the Bay Area’s Uncommon Chorus!

February 6, 2019 by sierra-n-fitchgmail-com Leave a Comment

Come join the Bay Area’s Uncommon Chorus for an open rehearsal, with an optional chance to audition, open to all voice parts!

Where: Crowden Music School, North Berkeley
When: February 11th, 2019, at 7:30pm
How: Email

WHY:
You like to sing Bach and Handel and live for a big group melisma…but you also yearn to splash around in a big harmony pool that is Lauridsen or Whitacre…oh, but minor seconds are fun too, like Gene Puerling arrangements or some classic Manhattan Transfer. But really, at the end of the day, what you are belting in your car is Beyonce and Billy Joel. Music is music is music is music – especially when done well with a great community of singers.

We are open to all voice parts with a special appeal for tenors and basses. We audition soloists for both classical and contemporary a cappella from within the group so both choral and solo voices are welcome!
Arrangers! Every spring we feature in-house arrangements at our popular Jazz & Pop show. You have a pool of fantastic musical humans with which to workshop your creations and bring them to stage!

Repertoire
Each season has a varied repertoire that includes classical pieces from all eras, African-American spirituals and, in our A Cappella Jazz & Pop concert, every conceivable genre – ‘hardly strictly’ jazz & pop! Past collaborations have included Bobby McFerrin, Sufjan Stevens, Meredith Monk, and Sweet Honey in the Rock. We worked with Dave Brubeck to produce two CDs of his choral music, and our Grammy nomination was for a performance of Bernstein’s Mass with Kent Nagano conducting. Explore our website for music samples and more information on our history.

Our 2018-2019 season began with a Spirituals Singalong, and our holiday concert, “A Rose in Winter.” Upcoming performances include our gala fundraiser and Jazz and Pop concert in the spring, along with other performances and workshops.

Rehearsals:
PEV rehearses Monday nights in Berkeley near the North Berkeley BART station at 7:30, and the season generally runs from late August to the following June.

Auditions:
Auditions consist of singing two prepared pieces of your choice, and vocaleses to hear your range. Please print our audition form and fill it out prior to your scheduled audition. If you have a resume outlining your music experience, please bring it as well. Solo opportunities are auditioned from within the chorus, so both solo and choral singers are welcome.
