I write to you today with an invitation for your musicians to make music with us! The Northeastern Illinois University Community Chorus is an ensemble comprised of students and friends from all parts of our community. Some of our members are lawyers, doctors, homemakers, office workers, accountants, faculty, k-12 educators, Even though our members come from diverse religious, political, and professional backgrounds there are common threads that unite all of us; we love making music at the highest level possible and we get to spread joy in the world through our music making.
Our recent performances have been of some the greatest sacred and secular music in our music history; Bach Cantatas, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Brahms’ Schicksalslied, Benjamin Britten’s “St Nicolas Cantata”, and the legendary “Carmina Burana” by Karl Orff! We have partnered in concert with the professional Chicago based group VOX3: Vocal Collective, Northminster Presbyterian Church in Evanston, Lakeview Orchestra, NEIU Orchestra, Midwest Young Artists: Voices Rising, Campenella Children’s Chorus, Chicago Clarinet Ensemble, Pan Go Steel Drum Band, NEIU Brass Ensemble, among others. This year we will be performing with Chicago’s professional early music ensemble “Marion Consort”. As you can see our program is about making musical relationships—and we would love for you to be a part of it!
We will present two concerts this semester; the first, Exuberance & Wisdom, presents the early and late works of Mozart, Monteverdi, Eric Whitacre, and others. Our second concert will be in collaboration with the professional Chicago based Early Music Ensemble, The Marion Consort. They will be fresh off performances in Chicago, Milwaukee, and New York before they perform with us on Charpentier’s dramatic motet In Nativitatem D.N.J.C., and in a departure from their normal literature they will join us as the soloists in the remarkable work, The Ecstasies Above by Tarik O’Regan for chorus, double chorus of soloists and string quartet.
