MPLS (imPulse): 2016-2017 Auditions

MPLS (imPulse) is pleased to announce auditions for its third season! Auditions will take place on Thursday, July 14, 5:00-7:30 PM and Monday, July 18, 6:00-10:00 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in South Minneapolis (4842 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55419). There is no required audition fee. The audition will last approximately 15 minutes and will consist of the following exercises:

-Simple vocalises to evaluate tone, intonation, musicality, and range
-Sight Singing
-Tonal Memory
-Prepared excerpts*

*All auditioning singers will be required to prepare two brief choral excerpts for this audition, available after scheduling your audition.

Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, July 20 between 7:30 and 9:30pm at St. John’s.

Singers receive a total of $200 per project. We not only seek responsible, outstanding singers, but outstanding people. Providing a meaningful and community-driven experience for our choral artists is at the heart of our mission. A high expectation for personal preparation is required. All ensemble members are expected to arrive at project rehearsals with their music mastered and marked in advance.

MPLS (imPulse) is a professional chamber chorus based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 2014 by Samuel Grace, the ensemble seeks to reimagine traditional conventions in choral music and to engage audiences with eclectic music in diverse spaces. Artists in MPLS (imPulse) prepare music in advance of scheduled festival appearances where the ensemble rehearses, builds community, and presents a series of concerts throughout the region. We prioritize the performance of choral music that is eclectic in nature, and we do it in the most diverse spaces we can find.
