Masterworks Chorale Auditions & Open Rehearsals, September 2022

August 19, 2022 by Kevin Leong Leave a Comment

The Masterworks Chorale, conducted by Kevin Leong, is holding auditions for all voice parts. The repertoire for the Chorale’s 83rd Season includes Handel’s Chandos Anthems, Mozart’s Vespers, and John Rutter’s Requiem.

Auditions for all voice parts are scheduled during two Open Rehearsals for prospective new members: Tuesdays, September 6 and 13, 7:30–10 pm, at Beth El Temple Center (2 Concord Avenue, Belmont, MA 02478; near Fresh Pond Circle, Cambridge). Tenors and basses are especially welcome.

Regular rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings, 7:30–10:00 pm, at Beth El Temple Center in Belmont. Ample, free parking is available, and buses run directly from Harvard Square. Concerts are performed in Sanders Theatre, Cambridge, and Old South Church, Boston.

All singers are required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Masks are also required. If you would like to audition, please send an email with your name, address, and phone number to , or call (908) 227–1653, and leave this information on our voicemail. We will supply additional audition and scheduling information at that time.

Our audition consists of the following components: (1) Solo of your choosing to be sung with piano accompaniment. Choose something that you know well and which you feel shows your voice to its best advantage. The piece does not have to be memorized. Past choices for solos have included arias, art songs, or hymns (your voice part in a choral work is not acceptable as a solo). Songs may be sung in English. A piano accompanist will be provided for you, and you should bring a copy of your music for the accompanist. (2) Sight reading, with consideration given to accuracy of notes, intervals, and rhythm.
