One of Tim Knight‘s special skills is to be able to spot talent and help it to blossom, as was recently most wonderfully demonstrated when a young lad came to him for music theory lessons and wasn’t really that interested, but at Grade 5 when composition entered the syllabus, showed a talent for writing and composing so Tim took him under his wing and gave him 1-1 composition lessons over about 3 years … this was a recent note from his mother to the College at which Tim is the Principal …
‘Just wanted to let you know that my son has just got into the National Youth Orchestra as a composer. He owes you one! The composition lessons he had with Tim gave him a great basis for his creative approach to composing and you all gave him so much encouragement and support over the years. One of the pieces he started with Tim and developed at JRNCM was in the portfolio he submitted to NYO. So thank you all once again!’
Singers and choirs take immense joy from singing music from great composers… but those great composers derive their joy in producing it to be heard …. so who might the next ‘great’ be – do you know anyone? Just get in touch with Tim at and see where it leads – he’s a Yorkshire man so won’t beat about the bush and can offer a bespoke (which doesn’t mean expensive!) service to suit time available, location and goals… gift vouchers are also available towards lessons…
