GMChorale (Greater Middletown Chorale) invites experienced singers to audition with Artistic Director Joseph D’Eugenio for their Spring concert season, which will feature Sarah Meneely-Kyder’s Letter from Italy, 1944, the largest and most comprehensive work commissioned by The GMChorale to date. It explores the national problem of PTSD and its effect on families by examining the true story of one soldier through music, art and theater. In April 2013, the two-hour oratorio was premiered, fully staged with professional soloists, orchestra, visual projections and theatrical lighting.
The May 4, 2017, second performance of the work, conducted by Joseph D’Eugenio, combines the vocal forces of the GMChorale and the Hartford Chorale accompanied by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra at The Bushnell in Hartford. Noted opera director and Artistic Director of Connecticut’s Opera Theater of Connecticut, Alan Mann, is the production’s Staging Director. Tenor soloist and Hartford Chorale Assistant Music Director, Jack Anthony Pott, reprises the oratorio’s lead role as Dr. John K. Meneely.
Director D’Eugenio will be holding auditions at Cheshire’s First Congregational Church in January 2017 prior to the first rehearsal on January 24th. To schedule an audition, please call Coordinator Margie Livengood at (860) 633-6198 or email her at .
Starting January 24, GMChorale rehearses each Tuesday, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm, at Cromwell’s Bethany Lutheran Church, 50 Court St., just off I-91 and Rt. 9. Visit www.gmchorale.org for more information.
