The Edina Chorale (EC) is a place singers come to rediscover and extend their musical lives. Most members sang in high school and college choirs, and many were trained in the fine Minnesota choral traditions. Some singers find EC mid-life, when careers are stable and children are becoming more independent. EC also has a sizeable and growing number of recent college graduates who haven’t missed a beat – they slide right into the group and continue the choral singing they enjoyed during college. EC is proud of the “lifetime of choral singing” the group represents.
We perform 3-4 major concerts during the year. We sing traditional choral music (often during the holiday season), classical works, and contemporary favorites. To say the Edina Chorale’s repertoire is varied and eclectic would be an understatement. A recent season, “Winter White, Concert Black, Red Carpet” featured traditional holiday music (e.g. John Rutter, Irving Berlin), a festival of Baroque music with a chamber orchestra (Handel, Bach and three lesser known composers), and a contemporary concert accompanied by a jazz band (highlights were “Moon River”, “Skyfall” and “Time Warp”). Not many choirs feature the works of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Eric Whitacre and Giavanni Gabrielli in the same season!
