The Canticum Novum Singers of NYC, a volunteer chorus conducted by Harold Rosenbaum, is seeking very good sight readers for its performances in May 2017 of Bach’s 6 motets. Please email Dr. Rosenbaum at if you’re interested in auditioning. Visit The Canticum Novum Singers at http://canticumnovum.org/. In the words of John Elliot Gardiner:
“Bach’s motets are among the most perfect of all his works. Through their extraordinary complexity and density they make colossal demands of everyone who performs them, requiring stamina, exceptional virtuosity and sensitivity to the abrupt changes of mood and texture, as well as to the exact meaning of each word. With their skillful use of canon, fugue and counterpoint, the brilliant exploitation of double-choir sonorities and the tautness of their structural organization, each of them is challenging in its own way and endlessly fascinating. Above all they can touch the listener as well as the performer, revealing Bach’s essentially compassionate nature, his dance-like joy in the praise of God and his total certitude in the contemplation of death.”
The works are:
Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (BWV 225)
Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf (BWV 226)
Jesu, meine Freude (BWV 227)
Fürchte dich nicht (BWV 228)
Komm, Jesu, komm (BWV 229)
Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden (BWV 230)
