Singing Retreat based at King’s College, Cambridge 14-16 April 2023
It will be a special privilege to hold our first course based in King’s College, where composer Christopher Tye was a chorister (1509-1512) and Orlando Gibbons studied (1596-1599). For this course you’ll stay in ensuite student rooms, passing through the imposing Porters’ Lodge each day as we move between colleges. We’ll sing in several different college chapels, and aim to include at least one session in the great King’s College Chapel, where Rubens’ imposing The Adoration of the Magi (1633–34) stands over the main altar. A spectacular base for our weekend Singing Retreat! For more details see our website – book now to enjoy an Early Bird discount of 10%. Early Bird Booking now open!
Choral Summer School
29 July – 5 August 2023 at St Catharine’s College
Our first Choral Summer School in 2023 is looking super-exciting! Staying right next door to King’s College in St Catharine’s, this course is a chance to really immerse yourself in the life of a Cambridge Choral Scholar. There will be time to explore Cambridge for yourself, perhaps the most intensive square mile of choral singing in the world – and to visit the famous Fitzbillies tea shop, Jack’s Gelato and The Eagle pub, where Crick and Watson celebrated their discovery of DNA in the Cavendish laboratory across the road. Part of the fun is of course breaking bread together, and we’ll enjoy delicious food prepared by a team of St Catharine’s chefs and wines from the college cellar – plus the opportunity for warm camaraderie and new friendships with people who share your passion for singing:
- Sing Evensong in four different chapels
- Gala Concert to which friends and family are welcome
- Directed by world-class choral directors
- Sing Compline by candlelight
- Chamber group work where we can explore selected pieces in more detail
- View the Caius Choirbook manuscripts
- Sing madrigals on a punting picnic on The Backs
- Workshops on consort singing and choral directing
- Formal dinner in the College dining hall
- Visit the celebrated Fitzwilliam Museum
- All meals included and prepared by college chefs
- Wines (and port) selected from the college cellars
“Really enjoyed the formal dinner, the food, wine and port were delicious! And…I felt at ease very quickly and actually really loved meeting everybody on the course; tutors and fellow course attendees alike. It was a weekend I will never forget.”
