29th Concert Season, 2017-2018
The South Bend Chamber Singers, Michiana’s premier vocal chamber ensemble,
announce auditions for experienced singers.
Concerts for the coming year include Christmas at Loretto on December 17th, showcasing new music for the season performed in a great acoustical space
and featuring the world premieres of a new works by American composers
William Averitt and Zae Munn. New arrangements of traditional carols and works with string quartet will also be featured. This concert will be repeated at Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven, MI on December 19.
On March 11, guest conductor Emerson Eads will conduct Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle in O’Laughlin Auditorium in honor of the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death.
Our season closes with the Great Lakes premiere of American composer
John Muehleisen’s fantastic new World War I oratorio, But Who Shall Return Us Our Children: A Kipling Passion, on May 20. The libretto focuses on the historical account of the tragic death of Lieutenant John “Jack” Kipling during the Battle of Loos and on the impact that his death had on his family, particularly on his parents,
Rudyard and Carrie Kipling.
Auditions will be held August 26-September 1 in Room 309 Moreau Center for the Arts on the Saint Mary’s College campus. Singers should bring a prepared solo, and sight-reading and aural abilities will be tested. An accompanist is provided.
