COME SING WITH US…AND THE SAN ANTONIO SYMPHONY!”
San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers to Hold Auditions August 10 and 17—
The San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers, under the direction of John Silantien, will hold auditions August 10 and 17. Openings are available in all voice parts. Auditions consist of vocalizations, ear testing, sight-reading, and a prepared solo (if the singer has one). An accompanist will be provided.
The Mastersingers’ 75th concert season, 2019–20, will begin with a performance of Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony. This is the piece performed by the San Antonio Symphony and Mastersingers five years earlier at the orchestra’s Tobin Center inaugural concert. Succeeding concerts this season include Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Schicksalslied, and Ravel’s “Daphnis and Chloe”. Concluding their season, the Mastersingers will perform their annual Musical Shower of Roses at the stunning Basilica of the Little Flower. That concert will celebrate the Mastersingers’ Seventy-fifth anniversary, and all former Mastersingers will be invited to join the chorus in a grand finale. The concert will also feature music that the Mastersingers will perform during their June 2020 tour to Scotland, Wales, and England.

The Mastersingers is an all-volunteer chorus numbering approximately 125 singers who perform each year on the subscription series of the San Antonio Symphony and independently. The chorus has performed in locations such as New York City’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Festival Hall, and major venues in Italy, Portugal, and Spain. In June 2018, the Mastersingers embarked on a concert tour to France, where some of their featured performances included the American Cemetery in Normandy, as well as the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Church of La Madeleine in Paris.
