Chicago Choral Project follows the choral traditions of Paul Christiansen of Concordia College, Richard Hoffland of Millikin University, and Robert Shaw. Emphasis is placed on purity of tone and blend, unanimity and precision of ensemble, and sensitivity to musical and textural nuance. The organic sound achieved by the group evolves through attention to vocal production, as well as the seating and placement of the singers within the ensemble.
We are looking for singers who are ready to come to rehearsal fully prepared (notes and rhythms learned), and who will enjoy a highly interactive process, which includes taking personal direction from the Artistic Director. Singers are chosen on the basis of individual sound quality, potential blend with other candidates, musicianship, preparation skills, and one’s ability to take direction.
Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:30-10:00pm at 5237 West Montrose Avenue. At this time, Chicago Choral Project is an all-volunteer venture and does not offer any paid positions. Singers are asked to participate in the operation of the group, either financially, or by offering any technical or organizational skills they feel might benefit the ensemble.
YOUR AUDITION
Individual auditions are an informal process and a time when the singer and Artistic Director can explore how they might enjoy working together. Singers are asked to prepare a song of their choice, as well as a piece which will be sent to you prior to the audition. You will also be asked to sight-read and may be led through vocal and tonal memory exercises.
Please contact our Artistic Director, Jim Collins to set up an audition. Individual appointments will be arranged at mutually convenient times.
