Auditions for Valley Concert Chorale 2018-2019 Season: Choral Treasure Chest
Livermore, Calif. – The Valley Concert Chorale, the Tri-Valley’s premier chorus for over 50 years, is now scheduling appointments for auditions for singers who would like to be a part of the Chorale’s 2018-2019 concert season. Auditions will be held on the following dates:
• Mondays, September 10, 17 and 24
The Chorale is seeking experienced singers with sight-reading skills who enjoy singing exciting and challenging music. The Chorale performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical to contemporary, and folk to jazz. To schedule an appointment, call (925) 736-9731.
The Chorale’s season includes three concert sets featuring the following performances:
Christmas Treasures: The Greatest Christmas Choruses
Saturday, December 8, 2018, 7:30 pm
Sunday, December 9, 2018, 3:00 pm
Featuring selections from Handel’s Messiah including the Hallelujah Chorus and For Unto Us, Berlioz’s A Shepherd’s Farewell, Holtz’s Christmas Day, and selections from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
Joyful Treasures: Joyful Songs that Dance!

Sunday, March 10, 2019, 3:00 pm
Featuring Benjamin Britten’s Te Deum in C, Arthur Sullivan’s Dance a Cachuca (from the Gondoliers), and Duke Ellington’s It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.
Broadway Treasures: From Then ‘til Now (Annual Benefit Concert)
Saturday, May 4, 2019, 3:00 pm
This concert event, a benefit for the Chorale, includes tea, coffee and cakes in an informal setting while listening to the music from Broadway favorites including Paint Your Wagon, My Fair Lady, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, and Disney’s Aladdin, Lion King, and Frozen.
The 15-minute audition involves some sight reading and rhythmic exercise. Please bring a short selection (art song, hymn, My Country Tis of Thee, etc.) in any language. Singers must commit to the season with Monday evening rehearsals held at the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore. The church is located at 2020 Fifth Street.

About the Director
John Emory Bush has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Valley Concert Chorale since 1998. He holds a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music and is also trained as a pianist, organist and harpist. He was Music Director and Conductor of the San Francisco Concert Chorale for eighteen seasons and Director of Music and Organist at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Cathedral in Dallas from 2000-2010. Mr. Bush is Music Director of Music and Organist at First United Methodist Church, McKinney, Texas. For the past fifteen years, Mr. Bush has divided his time between the Bay Area and Dallas, contributing to both musical communities.
