The Saints Peter and Paul Choir has positions for Sopranos in the 2019-2020 season. There are a total of 12 Choral Scholar positions in the choir. We are interested in hearing auditions for all sections and for occasional substitute singers. Choral Scholars must possess excellent sight reading skills and be able to commit to the choir’s demanding schedule. A complete job description for Choral Scholars is available upon request. The Saints Peter and Paul Choir is composed of approximately 25 professional and volunteer singers from throughout the Metropolitan Chicago area and beyond. The Choir provides music for the 9:30 a.m. Solemn Mass each Sunday and major Feast Days and Solemnities from September through June. The Choir also maintains a rigorous schedule of pontifical celebrations, recordings, and concerts.
While twentieth century American Choral Music forms the core of its repertoire, the Choir has received accolades for its performances of romantic and renaissance polyphony, as well. The choir’s repertoire of Byrd, Palestrina, and Tallis is balanced by music of Herbert Howells, Maurice Duruflé, Leo Nestor, Renand Morten Lauridsen.
The members of the Choral Scholars are the professional core of the Choir and specialize in the interpretation of Gregorian Chant, a cappella music from the renaissance, and more intricate choral music by modern day composers such as Leo Nestor, Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen and Rene Clausen. The Choral Scholars also maintain a rigorous schedule of liturgical performances for weddings and various other liturgical services. There are also many opportunities to cantor as well.
