The Episcopal Church of the Atonement (www.churchoftheatonement.org) will hold auditions this summer for singers of all voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) in its 10-voice professional Schola and sublist for the 2016-2017 season.
The Schola sings liturgical music spanning several centuries including Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, Viennese classical masses, Anglican cathedral music, and contemporary composers. The choir sings a polyphonic setting of the Mass Ordinary, Anglican chant, motets, anthems, and propers weekly. The Schola also serves as the core of the 18-voice Atonement Choir which sings for all major feast days and orchestral masses throughout the year.
The season begins October 1 and ends on Corpus Christi (mid-June). The Schola rehearses Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. for the 11:00 a.m. solemn mass. There are no weeknight rehearsals. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled occasionally throughout the year, but prior notice will be given. Additional calls for weddings, funerals, and evensong services are available throughout the year. All singers are paid $75 per call.
Christmas Eve midnight mass and Holy Week/Easter are required for full positions. Excellent skill in sight reading and the desire to sing in a chamber ensemble are of utmost importance. Extensive choral experience is necessary.
The church is located in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North side of Chicago and is easily accessible by train and bus. Please contact the choirmaster, Charlie Sega, with questions or to arrange an audition:
